ABOUT

Flora Recording and Playback is the studio of Grammy Winning producer/engineer/musician Tucker Martine. Housed in a former motorcycle club clubhouse, it's a 2500 square foot building in Northeast Portland, Oregon. The studio features a spacious live room and control room, four isolation rooms of various sizes all with great sight lines to one another, a reverb chamber, floating floors, phenomenal acoustics, lots of natural light and an impressive gear list.

“I grew up in Nashville and spent a lot of time in studios there. I always loved the feel of Nashville studios from the 50’s through the 70’s with all of the ship lap wood and took some inspiration from those designs for the new studio,” says Martine. "A lot of my favorite recording locales are not really even studios, they are churches and barns and homes with high ceilings and natural light so I tried to keep that in mind while putting this place together. I couldn’t be happier about the convergence we found between great acoustics and an inviting atmosphere.”

In his 25 plus years of recording music Martine has worked with My Morning Jacket, Modest MouseThe Decemberists, Madison Cunningham, Sufjan Stevens, The National, Gregory Alan Isakov, REM,Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, Beth OrtonBill Frisell, Mt. Joy, Whitney, Spoon, Neko Case, Grandaddy, Death Cab for Cutie, Mavis Staples, Laura Veirs, Camera Obscura, Jim Jamesk.d. lang, Iron and Wine, The Jayhawks, Old 97s and many others.
